Somatoform disorders:
„concomitant symptoms“ of mental illness
Just as every pill has its side effect, mental illness can have „side effects“. The problem is that an organic disease could often be „hiding“ behind the symptoms. However, this is not known until a doctor has clarified whether it is damage to an organ.
These „side effects“ are called somatoform disorders. The name is composed of the term soma = „body“ and toform = „looks like“. These are mental disorders that look like physical illnesses but have no organic causes.
